Finding Light in the Unexpected: Artist Laura A. Flores
There are places where you simply look at a landscape—and places where the landscape seems to look back.
For artist Laura A. Flores, painting is an exploration of that second kind of place: the space between what we see and what we feel, between the visible world and the inner one.
A longtime artist and educator, Flores creates paintings that invite the viewer to slow down and look again. Her work draws from the natural world, memory, intuition, symbolism, and the mysterious workings of the human psyche. Mountains, trees, water, animals, figures, and light become more than subjects. They become metaphors.
And sometimes, they seem to hold a message.
Flores describes her paintings as a way of finding light in the darkness. At a time when it is easy to become overwhelmed by fear and division, she believes art can remind us of something deeper: our connection to one another, to nature, and to the quiet wisdom within ourselves.
Her paintings often begin with observation, but they don't necessarily end there. Working in layers, Flores allows the painting to evolve intuitively, following unexpected shifts in color, atmosphere, shape, and meaning. The process becomes a kind of conversation between the artist and the painting—one in which she doesn't always know exactly where she is going.
That uncertainty is part of the adventure.
Her recent work explores themes of intuition, archetypes, psychic sensibility, and the human search for meaning. A raven may become The Seer. A watchful presence may become Silent Watcher. A landscape may transform into a meditation on reflection, memory, or the possibility of finding light even in difficult times.
