About Dina
Dina Romero Jay is a native New Mexican who has always had an inclination toward the creative. She was raised in Glorieta in a household of artists and musicians, which helped her to discover her passion for art.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New Mexico State University with an emphasis in photography. She didn’t set out to become an artist. The thought of becoming the cliché “starving artist” was a frightening prospect to Dina.
Early in her career she expressed her creativity and diversity through various jobs including as a copy work photographer, an art registrar, a marketing executive, an art teacher, advertising executive, an art publisher, a magazine publisher and finally a teacher. Always up for a new challenge, Dina decided to use her teaching skills to home-school her six-year-old daughter and three-year old son. After a year of being a stay-at-home mom, her passion led her back into painting and she decided to try her hand at becoming an artist – full time.
Even though she had always dabbled in painting, she had never showcased her art until now. Based on encouragement from her friends and family who recognized her talents, she decided it was time to pursue her dreams. She spent several months focusing singularly on pursuing her artwork and built up an inventory of florals, ballerinas and outdoor landscapes in oil. Dina’s current work is about exploring nature and places she has photographed. She seeks out the opportunity to paint things that challenge her and gains great fulfillment in her artistic journey. She has looked forward to sharing her work with a wider audience.
When Dina is not painting she enjoys creative cooking, as well as preparing her traditional New Mexican cuisine for her friends and family, raising chickens and growing her own food, as well as traveling with her husband, Trevor and her children Alison and Cooper.
