I'm Allison, the creator of Epically Epic Soap. I'm from Chicago and recently moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to give life in the mountains a try.
A glamorous day in the soap-making life ~
Since starting Epically Epic I wake up early every morning looking forward to the day. I feel like there are never enough hours to accomplish everything I want to do. On a typical day I spend the morning checking messages and answering questions from customers, then I try to turn off the computer and focus on making soaps for several hours, followed by packing up orders, which always takes longer than I think it will, and I have to bolt over to the post office right before it closes at 4:30 (4:30!!!). After dinner I go right back to making more soap. My favorite days are when I have a little extra time to work on new products. I love to photograph them and list them on Etsy!
How I got started~
In the summer of 2008, I was taking a break from painting and decided to take a chance on a little adventure. I started with a few creative ideas for artistic soaps, which were the Neapolitan soap, Mint Chip Ice Cream soap, Mrs. Zebra, and Midnight soap. After a lot of practice, mistakes, and frustration I was finally happy with the results. I became completely obsessed and worked on new soap ideas and techniques day and night. I remember riding my bike all around the city in the summer heat looking for the right essential oils, molds, and supplies.
Over the past two years my passion for soap making has only gotten stronger. My shop has branched out into lotions, lip balms, perfumes, and body scrubs. I feel so lucky every day to being doing what I love!
